TICO 2020--->MY PRESENTATIONS

Hi, my name is Pablo Herruzo Villamor, I live in Madrid in a district called Barajas and I am studying 1 bachillerato at the Ies Alameda de Osuna.

Throughout the year I will be posting my presentations on the TIC subject.

Function ---> what does the computer use those for?

It´s logical that when a person is considering buying a smartphone or a computer, they look at the different characteristics of the devices. But for many people much of the data is impossible to interpret.

Whether it's a gaming system or a home PC, the five main components that make up a typical, present-day computer include: a motherboard, a Central Processing Unit (CPU), a Graphics Processing Unit (GPU), also known as a video card, Random Access Memory (RAM), also known as volatile memory, Storage: Solid State Drive (SSD) or Hard Disk Drive (HDD).

Today, we are going to talk about four of them:

-   RAM

-   CPU

-  HDD

-  MEMORY CACHE

RAM

RAM stands for" Ramdon Acess Memory" and it´s the best known form of computer memory. RAM is considered as volatile memory, which means that the stored information is lost when there is no power. RAM is made up of small memory chips that form a memory module. Whenever you open a program, it gets loaded from the hard drive into the RAM. This is because reading data from the RAM is much faster than reading data from the hard drive. Without RAM you wouldn't be able to open or run any programs. Having large amounts of RAM is needed for people who are always multitasking and use memory demanding programs. RAM is measured in bits.

CPU

CPU stands for "Central Processing Unit" and is the main core of a computer where every command runs through and is routed to its appropiate location. The CPU is the `brains´ of a computer. It´s called the brain of the computer because all of the information goes through that device. It reads the information, somehow breaks it down into some sort of data it can decipher and makes a "decision" what to display as the final information. The CPU includes the main memory. Nowadays most computers have more than one cpu to provide better speed.

HDD

HDD stands for " Hard Disk Drive" and it´s a data storage device used for storing and retrieving digital information using rapidly rotating disks (platters) coated with magnetic material. An HDD retains its data even when powered off. Data is read in a random-access manner, meaning individual blocks of data can be stored or retrieved in any order rather than sequentially.

MEMORY CACHE

Cache Memory is a special very high-speed memory. It is used to speed up and synchronizing with high-speed CPU. Cache memory is costlier than main memory or disk memory but economical than CPU registers. Cache memory is an extremely fast memory type that acts as a buffer between RAM and the CPU. It holds frequently requested data and instructions so that they are immediately available to the CPU when needed.

That was the end of my presentation, thanks for listening.
